The Florida Marlins should hold onto Dan Uggla and Jorge Cantu
The Marlins would be crazy to trade either 2B Dan Uggla or 1B/3B Jorge Cantu will them right in the middle of the race for the National League East. Uggla has had a rough first half of the season playing in 78 games in which he is 61 for 275 (.222 avg, .768 OPS) with 38 runs scored, 15 homers and 45 RBIs. It’s a good sign that he has maintained his power stroke but the Marlins would like him to make more contact and get his batting average up some. Still, if the Marlins are going to trade Uggla it would be better to wait until the winter. Jorge Cantu has played in 73 games for the Fish this season and he is 80 for 282 (.284 avg, .782 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 9 homers and 47 RBIs. Cantu has been a very valuable part of the Marlins’ lineup and he too should stay the rest of the season.
