Brian Sanches is looking good again for the Florida Marlins in 2010

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Friday 27 August 2010 at 12:18 pm

32-year old righty reliever Brian Sanches is once again throwing well for the Marlins. He has pitched in 48 games (0 starts) for the Marlins this year and he is 0-2 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. In his two years with the Marlins, Sanches has pitched in 95 games (0 starts) and he is 4-4 with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Sanches is just another one of Larry Beinfest’s patented signings from the junk heap that turns to gold.

The Florida Marlins lose Cody Ross on waivers

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Monday 23 August 2010 at 2:20 pm

The Marlins have lost 29-year old righty swinging CF Cody Ross on waivers to the Giants. Ross played in 120 games for the Fish this year and he was 120 of 452 (.265 avg, .721 OPS) with 60 runs scored, 11 homers, 58 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. In five years with the Marlins, Ross played in 573 games in which he was 502 of 1,895 (.265 avg, .788 OPS) with 257 runs scored, 80 homers, 297 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. The Marlins have called up Cameron Maybin to replace Ross in CF. This was a bad move for the Marlins who only get salary relief for losing Ross. They could have got something for him at the trade deadline.

Ricky Nolasco could be done for the 2010 season for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Monday 23 August 2010 at 2:16 pm

27-year old righty Ricky Nolasco has a torn meniscus in his right knee which could end his 2010 season. He has started 25 games for the Marlins this year and he is 14-8 with a 4.22 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. Nolasco has only walked 30 batters this year in 155 2/3 innings while whiffing 147 batters as he has been very solid for the Marlins in 2010. 25-year old lefty Andrew Miller looks like Nolasco’s likely replacement. He made his 2010 debut for the Marlins recently and he looked good working 5 innings in which he allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run earning a no decision. He also walked and whiffed 3 batters in his first game for the Fish this year. But, Miller has not pitched too well in the minors this year. He has started 21 games in A+AA-ball this year and he was 2-9 with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. His biggest issue in the minors was his control as he walked 76 batters in only 101 innings in the minors in 2010.

Ronny Paulino of the Florida Marlins gets busted by major league baseball

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Friday 20 August 2010 at 3:12 pm

29-year old starting catcher Ronny Paulino has been suspended for 50 games by major league baseball for using PEDs. Paulino’s season is over and he will miss the start of the 2011. Paulino played in 91 games for the Marlins this year and he was 82 of 316 (.259 avg, .665 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 4 homers and 37 RBIs. Brad Davis has been recalled from AAA and he will share P.T. with Brett Hayes until John Baker returns next week. Davis played in 3 games earlier this year for the Marlins and he was 2 for 9 (.222 avg, .861 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 RBI and 4 whiffs. Brett Hayes has played in 18 games for the Marlins now and he is 11 of 48 (.229 avg, .663 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer, 2 RBIs and 16 whiffs. So the Marlins won’t have much offense out of the catchers until Baker returns to action. Baker has played in 23 games this season for the Fish and he is 17 of 78 (.218 avg, .589 OPS) with 7 runs scored and 6 RBIs.

The Florida Marlins place Sean West on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Thursday 19 August 2010 at 8:21 pm

The Marlins have placed 24-year old lefty starting pitcher Sean West on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee. West has started 2 games for the Marlins this year and he is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA and a 2.04 WHIP. He has given up 15 hits in only 9 1/3 innings this year as he is pitching extended batting practice for the opposing team. The Marlins have recalled 21-year old righty Alex Sanabia to replace West in the starting rotation. He pitched in 7 games (4 starts) earlier this year for the Marlins and he was 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. The Marlins hope he misses more bats this time around as he gave up 35 hits in only 23 1/3 innings.

Will Ohman is looking good for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 18 August 2010 at 6:07 pm

The Marlins are using 32-year old lefty Will Ohman the right way now (against lefties) and he’s responding. Ohman has pitched in 6 games for the Marlins and he is 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP. He has only given up 2 hits in 4 2/3 innings while whiffing 6 batters so he has been very effective. I know that there were some skeptics when the Marlins pulled the trigger on this trade but to me it was made to try to make the playoffs right now. So who cares if you give up a guy like Rick VandenHurk to take a shot at playing games in October.

Mike Stanton has been a force for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 18 August 2010 at 6:04 pm

20-year old righty swinging RF Mike Stanton came into this season as the Marlins’ #1 prospect according to Baseball America and you’re starting to see why that is. Stanton has played in 58 games for the Marlins and he is 57 of 210 (.271 avg, .905 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 14 homers, 39 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has whiffed 73 times this season for the Fish but he also has 25 walks which is impressive for a young hitter like him. Before the Marlins called up Stanton he played in 53 games in AA-ball in which he was 60 of 192 (.313 avg, 1.171 OPS)with 42 runs scored, 21 homers and 52 RBIs. He walked 44 times while whiffing 53 times in the minors this year. Stanton is starting to remind me a big of Miguel Cabrera when he came up in 2003.

Jose Veras has been outstanding lately for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 11 August 2010 at 11:58 am

29-year old righty reliever Jose Veras was awful early this year for the Marlins. But when they called him back up he has looked like a shiny new pitcher. Since June 25th, Veras has pitched in 18 games out of the pen for the Marlins and he is 1-0 with a 1.02 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. Veras has now pitched in 22 games (0 starts) overall for the Marlins this year and he is 2-0 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He has 31 whiffs in only 22 1/3 innings for the Marlins this year showing that he has pretty good stuff when he’s throwing strikes. Veras has also walked 13 batters this year so he does need to tighten up his control a bit. The Marlins are starting to use him later in games showing some faith in him which has been rewarded as of late.

Donnie Murphy has really gotten some big hits for the Florida Marlins this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Friday 6 August 2010 at 9:06 am

27-year old infielder Donnie Murphy has been relegated to pinch hitting so far for the Marlins and he’s doing a outstanding job. Murphy has played in 14 games for the Marlins this year and he is 5 of 16 (.313 avg, 1.165 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 2 homers and 7 RBIs. The only thing probably holding back the Marlins from giving him some starts at 3B over Wes Helms is his career stats coming into this year. Coming into this season Murphy played in 127 games in the majors in which he was 62 of 325 (.191 avg, .607 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 10 homers, 45 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.

The Florida Marlins sign Chad Tracy

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Thursday 5 August 2010 at 3:50 pm

The Marlins have signed 30-year old lefty swinging 1B/3B Chad Tracy. Tracy has played in 28 games this season for the Cubs and he was 11 of 44 (.250 avg, .622 OPS) with 6 runs scored and 5 RBIs. He has now played in 732 games in his 7 years in the majors and he is 665 of 2,382 (.279 avg, .788 OPS) with 299 runs scored, 78 homers, 323 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Tracy will immediately improve the Marlins bench. The Marlins have demoted 24-year old lefty swinging outfielder Bryan Petersen to make room on the roster for Tracy. Petersen played in 23 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 2 of 24 (.083 avg, .203 OPS) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs.
