Cameron Maybin comes up swinging for the Florida Marlins

Cameron Maybin was the prize of the Miguel Cabrera/ Dontrelle Willis trade over the winter and he has come up swinging in September. Since his recall from AA, Maybin has played in 7 games for the Marlins and he is 14 for 28 (.500 avg) with 8 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Maybin will get another opportunity next spring to win the starting CF job for the Marlins and I think he will get it. Maybin had a so-so season in AA for the Marlins this season. He played in 108 games in the minors this season and he was 108 for 390 (.277 avg, .831 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 13 homers, 49 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Maybin’s future is very bright and the thought of him and Hanley Ramirez at the top of the lineup has to have the front office of the Marlins happy.

Jeremy Hermida proves to be nothing special for the Florida Marlins

Don’t be surprised if the Marlins attempt to trade Jeremy Hermida over the winter. He has been injury prone until this season so the Marlins wanted to see what he could do with a full season of at bats. Well he got them this season and he proved to be a subpar player for a starting RF. He has played in 139 games for the Marlins this season and he is 124 for 499 (.248 avg, .728 OPS) with 74 runs scored, 17 homers, 61 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. It’s possible that the Marlins could get burned by trading Hermida because of his youth but I have doubts that he’ll ever be much better than he is right now.

The Florida Marlins designate Paul Hoover for assignment

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Tuesday 16 September 2008 at 5:42 pm

The Marlins have designated catcher Paul Hoover for assignment to make room on the roster for a younger player. Hoover played in 13 games for the Marlins this season and he was 8 for 40 (.200 avg, .463 OPS) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. The Marlins have enough depth at catcher that they won’t miss Hoover at all. Hoover has played in 20 games in three years for the Marlins and he was 13 for 53 (.245 avg) with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.
