The Dolphins did pretty well in last April’s NFL Draft.  They found themselves their QB of the future in Ryan Tannehill, but some other guys from this class are really going to help them in 2012.  Here is a look at how the rookies did in 2012 for the Fins:

st round (#8) – Ryan Tannehill, QB – 24-year old QB Ryan Tannehill did the best he could with a WRing core that had an utter lack of speed.  He played in all 16 games for the Dolphins last year and he completed 282 of 484 passes (58.3%) for 3,294 yards with 12 TD passes and 13 INTs (76.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 49 times for 211 yards (4.3 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  I think he’s really going to step up when the Fins give him more to work with.

nd round (#42) – Jonathan Martin, OT – 23-year old Jonathan Martin started all 16 games for the Dolphins as a rookie last year.  Martin is going to be a solid bodyguard for Tannehill as their careers go on.

rd round (#72) – Olivier Vernon, DE – 22-year old Olivier Vernon played in all 16 games for the Dolphins last year and he had 31 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.  He could develop into a starter down the road.

rd round (#78) – Michael Egnew, TE -23-year old Michael Egnew only played in 2 games for the Dolphins last year and he didn’t catch any passes.

th round (#97) – Lamar Miller, RB – 21-year old Lamar Miller played in 13 games for the Dolphins last year and he carried the ball 51 times for 250 yards (4.9 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 6 passes for 45 yards (7.5 avg) last year.  Miller has a nice upside.

th round (#155) – Josh Kaddu, LB – 22-year old Josh Kaddu played in 4 games for the Dolphins last year but he didn’t make any tackles.

th round (#183) – B.J. Cunningham, WR – 23-year old B.J. Cunningham didn’t make the cut for the Fins.  He was picked up by the Eagles, but he didn’t play in any games.

th round (#215) – Kheeston Randall, DE – 22-year old DE Kheeston Randall played in 12 games for the Fins last year and he had 8 tackles.

th round (#227) – Rishard Matthews, WR – 23-year old WR Rishard Matthews played in 8 games for the Dolphins last year and he caught 11 passes for 151 yards (13.7 avg).  He caught 11 of the 19 passes (57.9%) thrown in his direction last year and 7 of his catches resulted in first downs.  He might just be a keeper.

GRADE FOR 2012:  B
